TY - GEN T1 - Adapting to Change: The Department of Homeland Security AU - Flynn, Maria AB - There are extraordinary events in our American history that have altered how our government functions and caused our leaders to adapt to change. After the September 11th attacks it became evident that federal agencies had to improve their ability to communicate and share critical information. The Department of Homeland Security was established by Congress in 2002 with the mission “to ensure a homeland that is safe, secure, and resilient against terrorism and other hazards”. This paper will examine the positions of various political stakeholders involved in the establishment of the DHS and how the agency has evolved since its inception in a new era of globalization.
