TY - GEN T1 - The Impact of Retesting On Students’ Perceptions and Academic Performances AU - Hogue, Ryan AB - The purpose of this research was to study the effects of retesting on a student’s academic performance as well as their perceptions toward a subject. This study was conducted in a high school in North Georgia. The participants in this study were 100 students in 9th grade physical science classes and most of the participants were Caucasian (62%) and Hispanic (36%). The students were given three attempts to take the test in hopes that they would learn from their mistakes each time they took the test. They were tested at the end of each section using an online computer test. This study adopted a mixed methods research design to collect test/retest scores as quantitative data and students’ interviews as qualitative data. The mean, average, and percentage were calculated for test scores to determine whether and to what extent the retaking tests had on the students’ academic achievement. The interview data was analyzed to assess the students’ perceptions toward retaking tests. The results showed that the multiple attempts of retaking tests had a positive impact on students’ academic and psychological performances. Faculty Adviser: Sanghee Choi.
