TY - CONF T1 - 30. Creating a Research/Data Portal for the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve AU - Clark, Parker AB - Creating a Research/Data Portal for the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve In 1980, a 2,674-acre greenspace was donated to the Gainesville Area Park Commission by the Johnson & Johnson Company. A 1,400-acre portion of this property became the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve and was leased to the not-for-profit Elachee Corporation. The Elachee Nature Science Center opened to the public 1990 and has educated tens of thousands of school students on environmental processes and conservation practices. In the late 1700s, small frontier farms dotted the region but the Chicopee Woods area escaped high intensity cotton farming because the relatively steep landscape made the area not ideal for farming. The relatively low levels of development and agricultural use that characterize the Chicopee Woods greenspace has helped preserve the landscape. Over the past three decades, to determine how to properly conserve the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve, Elachee has conducted in-depth scientific analyses of the property and invited researchers to add to this body of knowledge. The purpose of this project is to create a research/data portal that allows scientists and the public access to the research that has been/is being/could be conducted on the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve. Data are be classified based on the type of data (e.g., fish counts, water quality, land surveys), who conducted the study, and when they were conducted. An ArcGIS Story Map is being used to create a queryable interface that directly links to each project/dataset. This project will provide a link between the past, present, and future of Elachee Nature Science Center and Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve. DA - 2022-3-25 PY - 2024 PB - unav N1 -
