TY - CONF T1 - A Child’s Perspective of Civil War AU - Jones, Michelle S. AB - In society, children are well-known for their use of creativity and imagination. They see the world through an innocent perspective, one that is lost as they age; therefore, it is important to note the ways in which children view the world, especially during times of turmoil such as war or poverty. In the cinematic world, two Latino directors have chosen to narrow their focus on a child’s perspective during the Spanish Civil War. This research project will explore and analyze the ways in which directors Jose Luis Cuerda and Guillermo del Toro have centered their movie’s focus around children, who in turn in shape the viewer’s perspective of difficult times in Spanish history. Watching this unique perspective through the eyes of a child, viewers of “La Lengua de Las Mariposas” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” can more deeply connect and comprehend the messages in which the directors are demonstrating. Though both movies take place during this major point in history, each story provides different characteristics to accurately represent the time period. Keeping with the visual theme of these movies, a poster will best display the analysis of this project. My findings and resulting paper will hopefully display the ways in which these directors have impacted their viewers by means of a child’s perspective. DA - 2014-4-2 PY - 2024 PB - unav N1 -
